The Boxcar Children

The Boxcar Children series consists of 127 books written by different authors. The books are about a family of four brothers and sisters during the depression era whom find an old train boxcar and turn it into a house. The series talk about the struggles that the family went through in order to survive and also taught the reader of great morals. The books expressed the importance of never giving up, no matter how tough the issue is and also that with the help of family, anything can be done. I think this is why I enjoyed reading these books so much because they have instilled the values of always giving my best and to make sure that I help others out whenever I can and that I make sure that I always keep strong bonds with my family. These are values that I hope to instill into my students because they are values that the students will be able to use all of their lives. I feel by having children and students read these books would help the children to understand these values.

  1. Oh, The Boxcar Children! I have such wonderful memories with these books because of the connections I made to the characters. I also loved how the message was to never give up, like you said, which makes this series so great for a classroom. Each one of these books has a wonderful message of morality and values that I would want to instill for my students as well. Thanks for sharing and letting me travel down memory lane!

  2. I loved, loved, loved reading these books when I was growing up! The Boxcar Children and The Babysitters Club series occupied a lot of my time as a kid. I agree with Meredith when she says that she connected to the characters. They made me feel like I was having the same adventures they were.
