I'm planning on teaching preschool eventually, once I can add it to my degree. Until then I'm going to teach either kindergarten or first grade. At those ages there are several emotional, social, and mental lessons that the students must learn. When I was observing a preschool for two years the author Joy Berry helped many of the students with those lessons. She has six series equaling a total of 250 books to teach children-preteens about taking responibility for themselves and their actions. The stories are easy for the children to relate to and are to the point. I used the series called LET'S TALK ABOUT.. in the preschool class.
If you can't tell in the picture the series are:
I LOVE....: ages 1-3
LET'S TALK ABOUT...: ages 3-6
HELP ME BE GOOD...: ages 6-7
A FUN AND EASY WAY...:ages 7-10
GOOD ANSWERS...: ages 8+
WINNING SKILLS...: ages 11+
What a good post! sharing an author who creates book for all ages is beneficial to all of us knowing that we will all be teaching students of different ages. I how not heard about these books, but what an important lesson for students to learn. I love books that can help students grow as people and help to shape their own identity and it sounds like these books help with that. Thanks for breaking the book series up by age groups!

What a COOL resource! I'm definitely bookmarking this website. I want to teach K-3 once I obtain my degree, so this is a really good site to know about. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this resource! Like Brittney, I thought it was neat that all age levels were incorporated. This makes this resource beneficial to all of us as teachers no matter what age group we work with. I was also happy to see that this resource discussed feelings and emotions that children in that particular age group were experiencing. I think this is very helpful as sometimes children do not understand why they feel the way they do. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI like these books because they allow for many different grade levels to read the series. These series allow for students to learn about responsibility and consequeces throughout different age levels. This is a great tool to use and could do wonders in the classroom.
