Carly's Book Choice

I chose this book because of the reading that we have been doing in class about how children, even at a young age, experience adult feelings that they do not know how to deal with. This book is written so that parents or teachers can read it to children to get a conversation started about how negative self-talk can be damaging to our self-esteem. It has child-friendly pictures and words. There are also other books in this series that can help with many different issues. These include Don't Pop Your Cork on Mondays, Don't Rant and Rave on Wednesdays, Don't Despair on Thursdays, Don't Tell A Whopper on Fridays, Don't Fall Apart on Saturday's, and Don't Be A Menace on Sundays. I think every teacher and parent would find many of these books helpful when it comes to deal with feelings and psychological issues.

  1. That sounds like it would be perfect for integrating it into a classroom discussion on self-esteem. I know how powerful negative self-talk is for some children that I have worked with. I will be certain to look at the library tomorrow for a book within the series. We are getting a lot of good resources through this blog and yours really stuck out to me because that is such an important issue that often goes ignored, even if it is just that people don’t know what they can do to help children with their emotions.
