Melissa's Resource-Scholastic
http://teacher.scholastic.com/activities/ I chose this as my resource because it contains so many tools for teachers to utilize for teaching students. I narrowed my focus down to using the Computer Lab Favorites portion of the site. I have included screen shots of the sources I am using. To the right is a portion of the 50 Computer Lab Favorites. Beneath, I have a screenshot of a specific lab that provides writing prompts for students in a creative way. The students may either "spin" to create the story starter or spinning just one section at a time. Later it provides a format where students can write about their topic. I think that it is often just coming up with something to write about that stifles the process of writing. This is a fantastic tool to eliminate the focus on discovering a subject, which will then inspire students to write.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have heard so much about Scholastic, but I have never had a chance to visit online. After reading your post, I immediately checked it out! I agree with you that it is a great resource! I like that it is a resource that not only teachers can use, but the students as well! I cannot wait to use this in the future!
ReplyDeleteGreat. After this weeks readings I am certain that I would love using computers in the classroom to help student learn. However, I had a fear of getting students engaged so they are not wasting time and exploring during computer time. This is a great resource to help find excellent ways and activities to keep students engaged. I also strongly agree that the hardest part about writing is getting started, so i think these prompts can be very useful and helpful to young writers.
ReplyDeleteNice Share!

Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this resource; as adverstited there are many great writing prompts for a variety of gradelevels. In addtion, there are books that children can listen to online. I am not necessarily crazy about the questions at the end of the books I explored, as I feel that something reading should be just for the sake of enjoyment versus always about answering a set of questions. But still it's a great resource!
