In sixth grade, I met the author of the book Teddy Bear Tears, Jim Aylesworth. After discussing his life and reading his book aloud, he autographed a copy of his book for all of us to keep. This was a really neat experience. Looking back now, I realize that if it were not for Aylesworth visiting my school, that there is a good chance I would have never heard of this amazing story. Teddy Bear Tears is about a little boy who has four stuffed bears he sleeps with at night. When he is about to fall asleep he hears tears from one of the bears who fears scary noises from outside. The little boy comforts his teddy bear and tells him there is nothing to worry about. The bear asks to sleep close to the little boy and when he does another bear begins to cry. Throughout the story the boy takes turns comforting his teddy bears. This is a great story to read to younger children who may be fearful at night. It is remarkable how the little boy can be so brave to care for his teddy bear friends. I would reccommend this book to anyone who has a child or student who is scared at night. Also, this would be a good book to read to students when discussing how important it is to care for others.
