The Ugly Duckling

I'm sure everyone knows the story of The Ugly Duckling. I absolutely love this story and the lesson that it teaches to its readers. I think that the lesson of self-esteem and not letting others get you down it a lesson that students really need to learn at any age, and even be reminded of sometimes. I definitely plan on using this book in my classroom frequently.

Every child needs to know that the Ugly Duckling almost always turns in to the beautiful swan :)

  1. Haley,

I love this book. It's an oldie, but a goodie. It teaches children that differences can be strengths. I think it does a good job of trying to stand against bullying as well.

  2. I have noticed that in today's society especially children are having a harder time finding where to fit in. Students worry so much about who they are friends with, what they wear, etc. I think this book is important to bring up in every classroom as a simple reminder that it is okay to be different. No matter what age, children need to remember to accept everyone for who they are. I agree with Carly who thinks this book "does a good job of trying to stand against bullying." Thank you for sharing!

  3. I agree compleatly with your last sentance. The Ugly Duckling is an old story but it holds such a strong message. Every child should know that no matter how different from you a person is, they are still a person and it does not give you reason to pick on them.
