Teaching Tolerance Website

Teaching Tolerance is a great resource for all teachers, especially those who are culturally responsive. This resource is full of critical issue articles, professional development opportunities, and classroom activities that help provide understanding and answers to confusion and questions about the differences and similarities in cultures and people that can help all of us become better teachers. Check out the recommended resource tab to find great books to use when teaching critical issues.

Go to http://www.tolerance.org to explore Teaching Tolerance.

  1. Excellent resource, Lora! I've used this website many times...tons of great ideas? Any that stand out to you as especially relevant to elementary teachers wanting to use tradebooks in their classrooms?

  2. I have found the magazine articles to be very helpful to me not only as an aspiring teacher, but as a person seeking understanding to very complex issues about life in general. The recommended resources tab has a list of books to use on a variety of topics. If you select which grade you intend to use a resource in, a list will come up for that age group. Most of the recources are either trade books or videos that confront situations or educate others about critical issues that most would rather not face.

  3. I Bookmarked this site because I am constantly on the lookout for anything that will assist in teaching acceptance of others and their differences. This can be a major obstacle for teachers and we need good resources to help us with this issue.

  4. This is such a great resource! All of us could benefit from using this because it has to do with the culture of our students. I think it is always helpful to have new lesson plan ideas and materials to incorporate. I will keep this in mind and will refer to it to help my teaching skills.
