INSPIRE databases, or Indiana's Virtual Library, is an absolutely amazing tool for anyone. In high school I used this database to find sources for research papers, and even in college I have. In INSPIRE Kid's Search, chidlren can search for resources by certain topic fields such as: geography, in the news, and language arts, plus many others. There are also subtopics that they can add to their search when they are looking for a specific topic. I think that INSPIRE is a great tool for teachers AND students to use to find books to use in the classroom. I like your resource. I get so annoyed when doing research with children when they come upon something that is not within their topic or completely inappropriate, by accident. INSPIRE Kid Search seems like an excellent resource that may prevent this. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI remember using Inspire in school! Lots of teachers continue to use it. I agree, it is a great way to get kids to do research. It is put together nicely and organized enough so a young student can easily navigate through the database to find appropriate resources.

ReplyDeleteWhile I have never read this book, I think that your explanation of using the book is a great example. Students love mysteries and especially ones that have children as the main character. I think that the students would be able to relate to the girl in the book and would also find the story very interesting. I think that this book is a great way to introduce a lesson and would be successful.

ReplyDeleteI have also used this database and found it very helpful. It allows one to find tons of books for children and also allows them to search for books as well. This database has helped me to find really good books to share with my mentor students and has also been a great resource to use for my assignments in blocks.
