Lauren's Reading Library

The Magic Tree House Series is something I enjoyed reading as an elemenary student. The series is by Mary Pope Osborne and is geared more towards second-third graders but I know several other age groups that enjoy reading this series. The series is about a brother/sister duo that goes on wild adventures with the use of their magic tree house. They find that they must use their brains, teamwork, and the information that they have learned from books to safely get themselves back home. The characters are well developed and the plaot is fast paced. The author does an excellent job on reeling the reader and maintaining their attention. I would suggest any teacher who has beginner or intermediate readers to include some of The Magic Tree House books in their class library.

  1. My son loved these books! He is now in the 8th grade, and they are still among his favorites! I loved reading these books to students when subbing as well! They really are captivating books!

  2. Lauren,
I can remember my little brother reading these books when he was in about third or fourth grade. He seemed to really enjoy them, as I can remember him not wanting to put them down. It is important to appeal to students' interests when picking books for them to read. This series seems to do that as it has become very popular. Thanks for sharing your experience with this series. I will keep them in mind when building my classroom library.

  3. Lauren,

I have not read a book in this series, but I always like to hear that the quality of a book is good enough to span across several age groups. If you have not looked at the resource I shared, it was the Central Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library. The address is in my post, but my point is that I visit this branch often so I will have to check out a book from this series. Based on your description, these books remind me of the Hardy Boys' books that I read in elementary school. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Lauren,

While I have never read this series, it sounds very interesting. I like series that allow for many different age groups and for many different levels of reading. I feel that these types of books allow for students to read the same series, but on the levels that works best for the students.
