A website that I always found helpful when selecting books for my study buddy in Block I was
Kids@Random, created by book publisher Random House. It is a website that provides elementary aged children, teenagers, and teachers with a variety of book suggestions, literature-based games for kids, and information about many authors. The most useful part of the website is the one for teachers, called Teachers@Random. It gives literature guides that teachers can use based on grades, themes, and even specific time periods (Civil Rights Era, WWII, etc). In addition, it gives lists of books that have earned literature awards and are top-rated by teachers in every state in the country. One of my favorite sections of the website gives teachers instructions on getting reading programs started in their schools and classrooms. Overall, this website has just endless ways to help improve a teacher's knowledge of children's literature, thus creating a richer classroom experience for his or her students.
I went to this resource and I found it very helpful as well! I spent a great deal of time on the site looking through the different books and the part of the webpage that gives tips and points to teachers on how to get reading programs started in the community. This is a great resource for parents and teachers as well as students in search of a good book. I like how some of the pages you can click on offers activities that you can print out for children. Thanks for sharing this resource! I have saved it for future references!
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteI also agree with your statement, “Overall, this website has just endless ways to help improve a teacher's knowledge of children's literature, thus creating a richer classroom experience for his or her students”. I absolutely love this site for all of its ways to instruct students. It goes far beyond finding appropriate books. I discovered that I could search by grade level and even use a more advanced search. I pasted the pdf file I found in the website. It is a specific lesson for teachers wanting to use Dr. Seuss’s books. It offers so many suggestions on how each of these books will better your lessons. It gives a summary of the books along with activities specific to the objectives of each story. The activities that are suggested include follow up activities you can have children do later. This will help to solidify what they had previously learned. I appreciate that you shared this site with me.
